Britest is pleased to be once again working in association with Scientific Update to provide you with the scientific principles and skills that they don't teach at university, so you don't have to learn by bitter experience!
From 13th to 15th October in three afternoons, our latest offering Physical Organic Chemistry Concepts for process Development is all about the vital role of this sometimes underappreciated discipline in successfully bridging the gap from lab to plant. Relevant physical organic chemistry principles are not widely taught in standard academic chemistry courses and are generally gained with experience – either through knowledge transfer within companies or through trial and error after mistakes have been made.
Based on the work of Prof John Atherton, this course plugs that gap as well as exploring the requirement for inter-disciplinary cooperation (working with process development chemists, chemical engineers, analytical chemists etc.). The theoretical concepts are supplemented with numerous examples to demonstrate different aspects of the relevant single- and multi-phase physicochemical science, exploring the potential impact of various phenomena on yield, selectivity and reaction rate.

In November we will be turning our attention towards learning how to look at the world with the eyes of a Chemical Engineer. Based upon our popular Chemical Engineering: What you Need to Know... course, but reimagined for online delivery, An Introduction to Chemical Engineering Science will equip chemists and scientists and technologists from other non-engineering disciplines everything they need to know about the information and data that chemical engineers require for design, scale-up and process troubleshooting.
The training will be held online over four afternoon sessions from 2nd to 5th November, and a further three optional modules covering extended topics are also available on November 16th, 17th and 18th.
