Britest Process Understanding Day 2021 a virtual success

Britest's annual Process Understanding Day broke new ground by not breaking any ground after being successfully conducted for the first time as an entirely online virtual on the afternoons of Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd January 2021.

Nearly 100 participants gathered over the course of the two afternoons to enjoy a packed and varied programme of presentations, panel discussions and conversations, and a virtual expo display of twenty-eight online display booths featuring videos, innovation posters, and live chat opportunities with exhibitors and other attendees.

Registered Britest website account holders can access full post-event resources now including video recordings of the main stage presentations and discussion panel sessions, downloadable .pdf versions of presentations slides, and innovations poster presentations. Speakers including Professor Frans Muller (University of Leeds), Professor Ricky Wildman (University of Nottingham) and Dr Charles Gordon (Scale-up Systems Ltd.) covered a range of topics related to the theme of  accelerated uptake of innovation including process intensification, process modelling for scale-up and rapid prototyping of equipment and materials.

Addressing the meeting's other key note of building momentum in transformative times other sessions introduced  innovative applications of the Britest approach towards assessing risk across supply chains, in defining process control strategies, and in ensuring digital wellbeing whilst delivering Britest and other services and studies in an online world.

Achievements in these last two areas of interest were rewarded in the first joint presentation of the John Borland Award, Britest's main means of recognizing significant contributions to innovation within the Britest community, to teams from Biogen and AstraZeneca.
