Britest is delighted to announce the launch of a newly developed safety screening tool for solvent based batch reactions. Exclusively available to registered Britest Advocates, BatchSafe is an easy to use spreadsheet based utility that enables the user to rapidly separate combinations of reaction and operating conditions that lie within a conservative basis of safe operation from those that require additional assessment and study as a prelude to scale-up.
Batch reactions carried out in solvent are prevalent throughout the process industries, for example in pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, fine chemicals and flavours and fragrances. It is expected that the tool will be particularly applicable to the needs of multi-product production facilities, which feature frequent change overs between products and new product introductions. BatchSafe compares the physical and thermal effects for exothermic reactions carried out in a range of solvents, including water. Some simple, conservative safe limits are proposed, and the tool can be useful to help identify better, safer operating conditions leading to more robust processes.
Registered Britest Advocates can download the tool and full supporting documentation on how to use it and interpret its output from the exclusive members area of our website.
