Murray is a strong proponent of lifelong learning and continuous improvement. Coupled with a love of generating and exploring innovation he has a focus on maximising strengths to stimulate personal and group excellence.
After a BA (Natural Sciences), PhD in enzymology and post-doc in polyketide natural products at Cambridge, Murray joined GSK to develop and implement novel screening technologies. With experience in leading programs to Candidate Selection and business process improvements he has great familiarity with the drug discovery process. Murray then moved into an innovation role seeking and incubating sustainable manufacturing technologies, notably bio-manufacturing processes. He led a multidisciplinary team of enzyme engineering scientists implementing biocatalytic routes for making pharmaceuticals including oligonucleotides and vaccines within drug substance development. He is passionate about developing sustainable and cost-effective biological manufacturing processes to make a real impact on peoples’ lives and our planet.
Murray is Hon Prof at the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology, University of Manchester and has always promoted collaborative research, being a member of numerous advisory boards and currently chair of the Skills Advisory board for the Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre (IBioIC).
In his spare time, Murray runs a Beaver colony and enjoys upskilling them in outdoor adventures. He has enjoyed travelling and is looking forward to his children being old enough to travel to exciting parts again.
